Having dry, itchy and flaky scalp is really irritating which happens due to dry skin, fungal growth on scalp, growth of bacteria, inflammatory skin conditions and irritated oily skin. It can be controlled by following a proper hair care routine and few home remedies.
- Indian Lilac
With anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, Indian Lilac which is also known as neem can treat dandruff. Boil handful of leaves in four cups of water and keep it aside to cool down. Strain the liquid and rinse your scalp and hair with it twice a week.
- Apple Cider Vinegar
It restores the pH balance and inhibits yeast growth on the scalp. It clarifies scalp naturally unclogging scalp pores and hair follicles. Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with equal amounts of water and 20 drops of tea tree oil. Massage this to your scalp for few minutes and rinse it after 10 minutes. Do this twice a week.

- White Vinegar
It has acetic acids that prevents fungal growth on the scalp and reduces itching. Mix half cup of it with two cups of water and rinse your hair after shampoo. You can also mix vinegar, olive oil and water in 2:1:3 ratio and massage it to scalp for few minutes. Leave it for 10 minutes and then shampoo. Do this twice a week.
- Baking Soda
It removes dead skin cells on the scalp and absorbs excess oil from it. It balances the pH of the scalp and prevents fungal growth on it. Massage some baking powder to damp scalp and leave it for a couple of minutes. Rinse well with lukewarm water and repeat twice a week but do not shampoo after this.

- Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has anti-fungal properties that prevent fungal growth n the scalp. Add few drops of this oil to your regular shampoo while washing your hair. Just a single drop per ounce of shampoo is enough. You can also mix few drops of it with a tablespoon of olive oil or coconut oil and massage this to your scalp. Leave it for at least 30 minutes or just leave it overnight for better results. Rinse it well and do this twice a week.
- Lemon Juice
Citric acid in lemon juice fights fungus on the scalp and relieves itching. Mix half a lemon with 1/3 cup yogurt. Apply this to the scalp and leave it for 30 minutes and then shampoo. You can also dilute lemon juice with water and apply to your scalp. Leave it for not more than 5 minutes and then shampoo. Do this twice a week.

- Aspirin
Aspirin consists of salicylic acid which prevents and controls dandruff. Take two aspirin tablets and crush into powder; mix it with shampoo you use for a wash and shampoo. Leave it for few minutes and then rinse it. Shampoo again to remove the traces of aspirin. You can also mix the same with a tablespoon of vinegar and massage it to the scalp. Leave it for 30 minutes and then shampoo.

- Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can cure dandruff mostly due to its anti-fungal and moisturizing properties. Mix some oil with lemon juice and massage it to the scalp for few minutes. Leave it for an hour and then wash with a good shampoo. Do this twice a week for good results.
- Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil moisturizes scalp naturally preventing dandruff build up on the scalp. Massage lukewarm olive oil to the scalp and wrap it with a hot towel. Leave it for an hour and then shampoo. Do this twice a week.

- Fenugreek Seeds
Fenugreek also helps in curing dandruff with its anti-fungal properties. Soak 3 tablespoons of it overnight and grind them into paste the next morning. Apply this to your scalp and leave it for few hours and then shampoo. Do this twice a week.
